The demand for vintage and antique goods

Thanks to the folks over at HGTV, more of us are watching home improvement shows more than we watch the news. In fact, more people watch #HGTV than many other programs on television. In 2017, HGTV’s most-watched shows brought with them a huge resurgence in consumer demand for vintage and antique décor, accessories, and furniture.

Why we love the old again

From flea market finds to the quest for something more specific from an antique store, the old, the unique and the original are in high demand. We have seen the impact of Hollywood and how people shop and buy. The glamorous life leaves us wanting it all. But, the people behind the scenes, the roles of costume and set designers have become more intriguing as of late. People want to learn how to dress and decorate their homes by the things they see and gravitate towards on their favorite shows. They see the inspiration for their home and what they are coming to realize is original items are unique and allow them to bring stories into their homes with vintage and antique goods.

The Do It Yourself Movement

The huge demand from the public in the last decade for television program content around remodeling and fixing things up has driven the vintage and antique industry to boom. We are tired of trends and we want our home to reflect our own tastes, not what is currently the “in” thing. Vintage interiors, fixtures, furniture, and accessories are very appealing because they have character, were made very well in their time and have a timeless, classic appeal. When you decorate with antiques, you won’t have a home that looks like anyone else’s and that’s what people gravitate towards these days.

There will always be a market for buyers who want traditional, pristine antique pieces because collecting the past is their passion. And then there are those that like to buy antiques that, well, just call to them. Pieces they just see and have to have and then find a way to incorporate it into their home and personal style. Whatever your reason for buying antiques, don’t miss out on the chance to own something rare and unique or something in abundance but is yet still full of character.

As more people discover television shows that depict the use of vintage and antique items into a home, like the shows on HGTV, there will always be a demand for the antique world. One of the best ways to find antiques is to get out there and start looking. Large antique malls like Antique Allure have everything you need under one roof. With an array of items from different dealers, there is something for everyone. And if it isn’t there, chances are there is someone who can find it for you.

As you explore your local antique shop, think about all the fun and interesting things that await you.
