Incorporating Antiques into Home Decor

Published on: July 4, 2018

Live with what you love and love where you live

When it comes to your home’s own décor, interior designers agree on one thing: fill your home with things you love. You are the person who lives there. Your home is not a museum to display things for others; it is for your own enjoyment. Our home is our sanctuary, our place to relax and tuck ourselves away from the rest of the world. It’s important to make it a happy and relaxing place. One other thing interior designers agree on these days is to mix and match the old with the new. Hitting your local antique store and finding old items that spark a memory or just make you smile are the main ingredients for a happy home.

Trends are a fun way to look at what we have loved and get excited about what’s to come. However, when it comes to your home, you should ignore trends. This means that sometimes your home may be on trend and others, not so much. You should be fine with that because most decorators are as well. Trends are just an opportunity for clients and individuals to see what’s new out there in the world and discover things we didn’t know existed. But at the end of the day, what looks best in your home and what feels best to your soul is what you should listen to.

Up until a couple of years ago, it wasn’t stylish to display Grandma’s china or Mom’s 1970’s furniture. You wanted stark, sterile pieces that made your home look cold and distant. Maybe you still have that white, pristine sofa but why not add some pops of color to it with pillows and throws. While you’re at it, get those 1970’s end tables that were Mom’s and add them to the mix. It’s okay to want trendy things in your home but when that trend is gone, most of us can’t afford to redesign the room with new things.

That’s where antiques come into play. Antiques and vintage items never go out of style. Most of us love things that were passed down to us. So why do we keep these things in storage or locked away? Because they hold sentimental value to us that we can’t get rid of them, yet we don’t want them displayed around our home. That is utterly ridiculous! Get out those old photos and knick-knacks and proudly display them in your home. They are your history, don’t be ashamed of it.

If you want to add to the antiques you already have around the house, why not compliment them with antiques you find in antique malls, antique shops, yard sales and flea markets? When you visit antique stores like Antique Allure, you are sure to find items that either compliment new items you have in your home or accentuate family heirlooms. Whatever you think you may find at an antique shop, you are going to find so much more.

Visit Antique Allure and be amazed at what’s in store.
