Collection trends in the antique world
What is hot in collecting, antique collecting that is! Boho style, that hippie, Bohemian or gypsy look has emerged in products in the big box stores. That demand and influence are even stronger in antique stores. Want to know what else is trending in the antique world? Keep reading.
Cast iron pans, wood duck decoys, knives, old toys, advertising signs, clocks, lanterns, and stoves are among the best sellers hanging out in antique shops and vintage stores. They don’t show signs of slowing in demand either. Galvanized metal sheets, pails, and washtubs are also trending. They are great for using on the walls in your house, barn or shed. Old galvanized sheets are popular for making letters, numbers, and signs out of.
Farm toys, cast iron pans, Pyrex bowls and vintage kitchen items are strong sellers. Younger customers are looking for anything farmhouse that includes signs and anything for use on porches, gardens and throughout the home. Going back to that boho décor includes anything bright and funky, reminiscent of the hippie culture. The mid-century decor is always strong in the collecting world as well.
One thing that never seems to go out of style or off trend is gas and oil memorabilia. Porcelain gas and oil signs, gas pumps and anything related to collection gas and oil such as old vintage gas clothing, small gas station giveaways and gas station toys always remain popular. Any old advertising seems to be in demand. Subject matter varies from person to person. License plates prior to 1940 are flying off shelves as well.
Scale model tractors are always popular as is almost anything railroad related. Small items continue to be fast sellers like advertising yardsticks, calendars, and old coffee and candy tins. Older toys from the 1930s and 40s are big sellers as well.
The trend is that there seems to be a plethora of vintage and antique items that are booming in the collecting world. What it all comes down to, however, is to collect things that interest you, not what is popular or trending. In the end, trends come and go and the antique world is no exception. Perhaps you love to collect something that just moves you or grabs you every time you see it. We say that is the thing you should be collecting!
When you visit your local antique store remember that what you find in there is only limited by your imagination. If something “speaks” to you, feel free to call out to it. You will know if something is worth collecting for you or not. At Antique Allure, we always say that you should collect what you love not what you think is going to go up in value. If you did that you would have a vast array of many items and nothing will make any sense.
