Holding onto the past one treasure at a time
We live in an age where our world is filled with new technology, new gadgets, new clothes, new everything. Few of us care about the past or preserving the history that has made this nation what it is today. We want to rip down monuments because we find them offensive without fully understanding why they are there in the first place. For the antique collecting community, we are trying to preserve our past so that when people begin to focus on our history again they will realize it is our past that has created who we are. And once that happens, hopefully, some relics and artifacts will still be standing to help us remember.
Old is the future of America. Just like the guys on #American Pickers, there are many of us out there who want to preserve the past not only to remember it but to hold a piece of history in our hands. To hold objects that represent yesterday and the promise of a great future that our ancestors wanted for us. At antique shops around the country, you will find the same passion the American Pickers have and we are just getting started.
Antique collectors are a passionate breed. Some have specific items they want to collect and others, like Mike and Frank on American Pickers, are happy to find items that allow people to connect with the past. They buy items from other pickers who understand the importance of holding onto pieces of history so that they can be loved and appreciated by others. Those who collect do so for the love of the hunt and the value of the prize once they find it.
Today, collecting old items has become a hot commodity. We scour thrift stores for items that we can repurpose. We shop estate sales to find valuable items we can resell or simply display proudly in our homes. We shop antique stores so that we can get our hands on a piece of the past and cherish it for the rest of our lives. Whatever our reasoning for looking to the past for tangible items, we can all agree that we do so because we are passionate about keeping these items alive and in good shape.
